Attitude of Gratitude- a whole month of Thanksgiving; day 25

Today was another day spent with family. There’s starting to be a whole new generation present at gatherings and it’s somewhat incredible to watch that unfolding. Today I am grateful for:

  1. Tradition – keeping you going and giving importance to something even when it takes you a while to really feel the sweetness of it all.
  2. Fire in the fireplace makes everything cozy and warm.
  3. More food and drink than I could possibly handle- a sign of love, care, and abundance.

I’m falling behind, but it’s hard to keep a routine when you’re traveling and doing all kinds of eating, drinking, and visiting that’s not your normal. And you know, shaking things up isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes it gives you opportunities to grow and be surprised. So for yesterday (Friday), I am grateful for:

  1. The warm weather and time spent moving my body outside.
  2. A day off, getting to sleep in, read books, and generally just hang out
  3. The chance to continue evolving my relationship with my cousins. I was stuck for a while and couldn’t see past the ways we’re different, but I now choose to focus on what’s the same. Now I choose to listen to them as they reveal to me who they are. And I choose love. And that’s all shifted because I no longer feel the need to prove myself.

So much gratitude….

Happy Thanksgiving to you all. I am thankful

1. that you have been joining me on this gratitude journey.

I didn’t write yesterday because the morning turned out to be a little hectic. We were trying to cook our part of the turkey day feast and mom managed to lock the food in the oven at which point the locking mechanism wouldn’t reopen again. Oops. I am also grateful that I;

2. Have lived with some crazy (and awesome) roommates in the past who have done that exact thing, so I actually know how to take a stove apart and open it.

While the food was cooking, we took the dog for a walk and I am reminded of how grateful I am for her – with her floppy ears and big smile and her wiggle while she walks.

The rest of the day was spent with family, noisily eating and drinking and giving each other a hard time. I am grateful for all of that.

But mostly I am grateful for gratitude. Gratitude is the only thing that yields abundance. Without it, no matter what you have, it will never be enough.

Here’s wishing you deepest gratitude. May you think it, may you feel it, may you speak it.

Tomorrow’s the big day, if you’re talking about thanksgiving (or you’re to believe the crowds mobbing the grocery stores and buying brussel sprouts like this is the only day of the year when you might eat them). But even today, I am grateful for:

  1. The fact that the grocery store isn’t usually like that!
  2. Food and drink a’plenty. Cooking and eating and sharing it like love.
  3. A walk in the woods and the memories of a grandma who taught me to believe in magic and gnomes. Every time I see moss, I think of them.
  4. A moon as bright as daylight and long, frosty shadows. A solitary walk in the cold night, aware of sounds and smells. Aware of fear and peace.
  5. My story and survival mechanisms that worked so hard to protect me and who I have held on to… Until now. Now I choose freedom and a new way of being. Now I celebrate being alive, being light.

Attitude of Gratitude- a whole month of Thanksgiving; day 21

This is technically a day late again. Yesterday I taught three classes, packed, and drove with my folks up to visit family for the holiday. So here’s a recap of yesterday’s gratitude:

  1. The awesome energy of students in my 3 classes. I am so grateful to get to do what I love and to share yoga with folks and watch them transform in some way. I am honored and privileged.
  2. The generosity and love of my parents. It makes a lot of things much sweeter.
  3. My dog who I don’t get to see often (she’s technically the family dog ) and who I got to spend the car ride snuggling with!
